FLAX SEEDS CUSHION SEWING TUTORIAL GREEN FABRIC

Intro This tutorial shows you how to sew a cushion with flax seeds, which can be heated in the microwave or cooled in the freezer. It’s a perfect project to start sewing, and to use fabric scraps. The cushion can be applied to sensitive, sore areas, or simply to warm up or cool down. Cold or hot? It's up to you, comforting & soothing warmth or a mild & decongestant cold effect. GREEN FABRIC

Material -2 x 50 * 20 cm of fabric for the inner cushion (choose one fabric that can be heated in the microwave, ideally linen or cotton) - 1 x 50 * 20cm outer fabric - 2 x 35 * 20cm outer fabric - 500g of flax seeds (in bulk stores) Optional: a knitting needle GREEN FABRIC

Inner cushion sewing We start by sewing the inner cushion, which will be filled with flax seeds. 1. Cut 2 pieces of fabric 50cm wide by 20cm high. 2. Sew the 2 fabrics, right sides facing, leaving a 5 cm opening on one side. Iron the seams and turn the cushion over, stripping the corners (you can use a knitting needle)

3. To avoid the flax seeds to leak I advise to make a second peripheral seam a few millimeters from the edge on the right side of the fabric leaving the opening. We can now pour the flaxseeds into the cushion. Once the seeds have been poured, close the opening of the cushion with a seam. 4. So that the flax seeds are evenly distributed in the cushion, we will now sew 3 separations, first one in the middle of the cushion by distributing half of the flax seeds on each side of the middle. Then repeat the operation on both sides. The inner cushion is ready. GREEN FABRIC

Cover cushion sewing We will now sew the cover of the flax seeds cushion. 1. This cover is made up of three pieces of fabric, the largest being the front of the cushion, the two small ones overlap and allow the inner cushion to be inserted in its cover. 2. Start by folding the edges of the small pieces of fabric over 1cm, iron and repeat the operation. Sew a seam along the edges to hold them in place.

Use Your flax seeds cushion is ready! You can heat the inner cushion in the microwave for a minute, having previously moistened with a few drops of water or put it in the freezer. When it is ready, put it in its cover and enjoy! You can add a few drops of essential oils if necessary on the inner cushion after heating and before putting it in its cover. GREEN FABRIC

Feedbacks Very fun and enjoyable workshop. Some tasks are to be performed in duo (filling the inner cushion with linseeds) which allows to meet and discuss with the participants. I found this workshop particularly interesting because the confection is simple but the result is impressive. The craze at the end of the workshop was general because our cushions were all successful. Half of the participants had never touched a sewing machine. Workshop for everyone therefore! Adèle

Since the workshop I think before throwing away, if it can be reused. I also try to buy more on second hand, especially for the kids. I can't wait to start this kind of workshop again. It’s really good for the spirit. We create links with people by creating and all this while preserving the planet. What more ? Justine
